Current Sermon Series

Revelation is a mysterious book, but John tells us in Revelation 1:3 that it is a blessing to read, hear, and follow. In the first part of our series (Rev 1-3) we learned that the book as a whole is calling us to persevere in faith as we see the day of Christ return drawing near. In Revelation 4:1 Jesus says he is now going to show John “what must take place after this.” In the second part of our Revelation series we will explore all that Jesus has said will take place from Revelation 4-22. We will start with the Lamb in the throne room of God, and end with the Lamb dwelling with us in the New Heavens and New Earth. We invite you to come and learn about what Jesus has said is to come and how to persevere in faith through it all.

Revelation - The Judgment of Babylon and the Beast

This week we will continue our study in Revelation looking at Revelation 17-19:5. This really is a zoom in on the seventh bowl and God’s wrath on those that oppose him in the world. The world in these chapters is likened to the ancient city Babylon. Babylon is then pictured as a beautiful and rich prostitute that, empowered by Satan, has deceived the whole world with her wares. God is coming in judgment against the world and Satan and will defeat them both. The world will mourn and the saints will rejoice. God’s call to us in the midst of these images comes in Revelation 18:4 “Come out of her, my people…” In other words, don’t get caught up in the world’s deception and find yourself estranged from God and in sin. Rather, come out the world and live a separate and distinct life to God that is holy, living in the grace of God, and being a witness in the world. This is a timely message for us as God’s children trying to persevere in the world by faith. The world’s deception through riches, sex, and power is powerful and persuasive and can lead us far from God. We as God’s people must learn to distinguish what is of God and what is not, and not live like the world. I think this passage will challenge each one of us to evaluate our lives and see if we are living for the things of the world or God. As God reveals our hearts, he extends us the grace of his forgiveness and the power of his spirit to come out of Babylon and live a life holy to him. What are the ways you are living like the world? What is God asking you to set down and begin living for him in a new way today? Come and join the gathering of the body of Christ this week as we celebrate all that he has done to save us. Let’s be a people that are learning to come out of Babylon on our journey to the new heavenly city of God.
